What is Pure-Data?
PD (aka Pure Data) is a real-time graphical programming environment for audio, video, and graphical processing. A "graphical programming environment" allows the user to write code by creating a diagram that defines the logic of the program, rather than writing a textural description with difficult syntax.
What is "Free Software/Hardware"?
Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. This means the Free Software is often supported by a community of users, rather than by a for-profit corporation. Anyone can contribute and improve Free Software. Free Hardware is hardware where the schematics and documentation is distributed and accessible, so if the end user can't afford to buy the finished "product" they can build it themselves.
What is "Electronic Media"?
Electronic Media is any machine or software process that is controllable through electricity. It means robots, computers, video, digital images, and electronic musical instruments.
Mission
The PDDP project was started by David Sabine in 2003 to improve upon Pure-Data's Documentation. Since then it has grown and the development of a Curriculum that covers electronic media, using open-source software & hardware, aimed at anyone who wants to be creative with technology. The Curriculum is implimented as a series of workshops and the support documents to make the workshop happen.

Bios
- Ben Bogart is an artist working in installation, audio-visual improvisation and software development. His installations create content live in response to the its sensed environment. He works in an open-source context and makes all the software he develops, that is of general use, available under the GPL. Physical modelling, chaos, feedback systems and evolutionary algorithms have been used to inform and and engage in his creative process. Ben is the author of the pixelTANGO visual performance software hosted by the Société des arts technologues in Montréal, Canada. "Resurfacing" is Ben's current project, produced in collaboration with Donna Marie Vakalis, the peice is a two screen interactive architectural installation that collects visual "artifacts" from its environment, and allows the audenience/subject to sift through the collection. "Resurfacing" is made possible though funding from the Canada Council for the Arts. Ben has presented work in Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, Vancouver, Seattle, Helsinki, Bergen and Barcelona.
