OS structure causing latency

by Winfried Ritsch last modified 2004-10-21 09:31 AM

what causes latency on OS-Sytem

OS Systems Audio Data Flow

  • Audiodriver
    • call back drivers
      • jack
    • polling
      • alsa
      • portaudio...
  • harddisk performance
    • since a access times to harddisks are like 8-30ms there should be a preloading in pd or a own thread...
  • Scheduler Time oOS

Long system calls which cannot be broken so they have to be stopped by the Scheduler interrupt. This time is called scheduler time.

There should be tests about this.

  • file system

which file open/Read/write times are garanteed on which file system

    • realtime filesystems
      • xfs (has anyone tested this ???)
  • dma irqs

I dont think there is any limit in here
