vor vier Monaten fand die Pd-Convention in Graz statt. Nachdem wir die Convention in Form einer audiovisuellen Dokumentation (erscheint demnächst auf http://puredata.info) aufgearbeitet haben, peilen wir jetzt ein neues Ziel an: die erste Pd-Publikation. Hierzu möchten wir dich einladen einen Text zu dieser Publikation zu schreiben.

--Die Publikation--
Die Texte zu dieser Publikation werden sowohl von Medien/KunsttheoretikerInnen, als auch von Pd-EntwicklerInnen stammen. Paarbildungen: TheoretikerInnen-EntwicklerInnen, die zusammen einen Text schreiben, sind willkommen. Entstehen soll ein Buch, das das Phänomen Pd aus vielen verschiedenen Blickwinkeln beleuchtet, ob diese nun historisch, medientheoretisch, technisch, usw. geprägt sind.

--Eine erste Textskizze--
Was wir vor dem einem eigentlichen Text bräuchten, wäre eine kurze Textskizze, die umreisst um was es in deinem Buchtext dann gehen wird. Dies soll helfen, Inhalte nicht doppelt oder dreifach anzureissen und evtl. Anstoss zu noch nicht behandelten Themen geben.

--Veröffentlichung--
Wir möchten die Publikation auch im Netz unter einer Open Source-Lizenz (welche ist noch zu klären) publizieren. Daher ist es wichtig, dass alle Autoren ihr OK zu einer solchen Veröffentlichung ihres Textes geben.

--Koordination--
Wir, der Pd-Stammtisch Graz, haben uns entschlossen, dass eine Person die Kommunikation mit allen AutorInnen und die Koordinationsarbeit zu dieser Publikation macht. Diese Person bin ich, Fränk Zimmer. Bei der Pd-Convention bin ich mit der Installation "Pd, open source, patches and communities" im Medienkunstlabor in Erscheinung getreten.

--Hilfestellungen--
Es besteht auch die Möglichkeit, dass ich dir (bei Interesse) eine CD zu einer bestimmten Convention-Diskussionsrunde zuschicke. - Ausserdem möchte ich noch auf einen neuen Text von Winfried Ritsch zu der Data-Flow-Engine-Architektur von Pd hinweisen: http://URL.........

now it is already 4 months that the pd-convention has happened here in graz, and most of the team has been working on the documentation of the events here, as good a we could. this process is to be finished soon, and will be found at http://puredata.info/ [ we will annouce it, when it is
really done.] so now we reach for the next :-)

--the publication--
a pd-publication is, what we had in mind already from the beginning. we even managed to get some funding for it, although at the current state the amount would not even cover printing. so we are stil in the process of looking for additional sources. - the textes of the book will be written from pd-developpers and from theorists. we want to have many different views on the role, that pd (could) play in different discourses. It would be great too, if there would be teams with developper and theorists working together on one text.

--a draft--
first we would like to ask you to send us a short draft of what you would want to write about in the frame of a pd-publication. the function of this draft is information for the publication team - in which direction will it go, what is possibly missing, or trippled...so, please do not exagerate in
investing time in this - if a few lines describe what you are heading to, this is perfectly great. we calculated some money for translations german/english; so these two are the languages you can choose to write. we apologize for this limitation, it is merely a budget question.
length of draft: max. 2000 characters / language: german or english / deadline: 1st march 2005

--coordination of communication--
we decided that the best wil be to have one person to coordinate the flow of information; i (fraenk zimmer) have already done a couple of publications, so i am glad to bring that knowledge into the team. during the pd-convention i did the installation <<pd, open source, patches and communities>> at medienkunstlabor, if you remember.

--publishing--
no matter, if we manage to get the funding completed for the book, we definitely want to publish all texts on the web, under creative commons, or a more siutable text-related open publishing licence. if you want your text to be part of the publication, you have to agree before and, even before sending your draft, that you will accept these terms. this is crucial for all further collaboration on this project.

if you´re interested (for your work on the draft) in a audio-cd from a discussion at the pd-convention - just let me know. and here the url http://xxxxxx of a new text from winfried ritch about the data-flow structure of pd.

for the moment, i would just ask you to reply to this email, with a yes, I agree to the creative-commons-idea, and can do the draft until the deadline. or: no, i am not interested/have no time...
